Fitness Training is Personal

This morning, I watched a young female YouTube fitness influencer (not a personal trainer) talk about how everyone only needs 7 exercises to look fit. “Look fit.” Yeah, that isn’t true, and looking fit is not the whole point.

Exercise is really important, especially as we age, and having everyone do the same 7 stock exercises is how you injure people. It is not how you help people get stronger across many areas of fitness.

What was shocking is that a certified personal trainer commented on her video that he/she agreed with the influencer.

There are a lot of personal trainers who will just give you a stock workout and call that training, but they are missing that training should be tailored to you, personally.

Old Lady Exercises Rock

I have delayed onset muscle soreness in my legs today. Because they are so sore, I worked out my arms, chest, back, abs, and butt today.

While I have many strengths, I also have a lot of weakness in my body from being underweight for so much of my life. Muscle loss worsened by metabolic syndrome.

When I was young, I called workouts that I do now, “Old lady exercises.” I remember telling a physical therapist they were wasting my time with “old lady workouts.”

But, old lady workouts are actually really good for me, and I feel good once they are done for the day. Of course, I do more challenging workouts, but it is always good to listen to your body. Being flexible about my workout today led to me feeling accomplished and did not lead to injury, which is especially important.

Some people say that you should push through pain or soreness, but those people do not understand that the body needs time to recover and heal and grow stronger.

When I was younger, I thought workouts had to be tough and punishing, but now that I’m older, I’ve realised workouts should also feel rehabilitative and conditioning.

Overview of Today

Well, today has been a good day so far. I did morning prayers after waking up at 0400. Had healthy meals. Got my workout done. I still have some depression and anxiety, but I’m managing it. After writing this, I plan to read now that my concentration is improving.
