Big Sky Possibilities
Yesterday, my youngest daughter who is twenty years old, K, and I walked on the Poudre River trail in northern Colorado.
The weather is unseasonably warm this year and there is a snow drought. When there is a snow drought and high winds, fire warnings are common. Luckily, we live in an area with a lot of managed land so the fire risk is lessened in our immediate area.
As we walked, I mostly focused on the sky. It felt huge and endless and full of possibilities. Instead of focusing so much on my stressors, I began to feel more hopeful and happy about the future.

Healthy Living Choices
The drive back home wound through town and I was so hungry after our five mile walk. Every fast food place looked enticing. I told K that it would be great to go to Dairy Queen and pick up some food on the way home. While Dairy Queen would have been delicious, it was not a healthy choice. Instead, we came home, and I made Atlantic salmon and green beans with lemon juice.
Eating a healthy meal after a long walk felt responsible and healthy. If I had eaten Dairy Queen, I would have felt bloated and resigned to being trapped in an unhealthy eating cycle.

Today
Today, I’m planning to visit my dad who is in a memory care unit. And I plan to finish reading The Purpose Code by Jordan Grumet. In January 2025, I started the book, but I didn’t really like it very much so I shelved it. Now that 2026 is rolling in, I want to finish up books I started this year.
The Purpose Code is actually more interesting than I originally thought so I’m enjoying the final chapters more than the beginning ones. The book has helped me to think about what is important to me and given me some optimism about life instead of feeling like all of my time is wasted doing things I would rather not be doing.
My hips are hurting after our walk so I am probably going to do an upper body workout today. I also feel the need to stretch my whole body. Tension has me wound up pretty tight. If I can get over my anxiety, it would be great to visit the gym hot tub later today.
Well, thank you for reading. What are some healthy choices you’ve made recently that you feel proud of?
